For Kayla and Kale, the dream of homeownership is finally becoming a reality.
Thanks to supporters like you, more people can put down roots, build financial security, and create lasting family memories and traditions.

Homeownership always felt just out of reach for Kayla and Kale.
Kayla and Kale did everything they thought would lead to a home of their own.
They finished school, built careers, and saved carefully. Kayla even put half of every paycheque toward a down payment when she started working.
But as housing prices climbed, their dream of homeownership moved further and further away.
Today, Kayla and Kale are raising their two children, Dennis and Aubrey, in a two-bedroom rental.
Six-year-old Dennis has his own room, but Aubrey still shares a bedroom with her parents. Soon, she’ll need a room of her own.
Moving to a larger rental would cost at least $500 more each month. And every extra dollar spent on rent would be one less dollar they could save toward owning a home.
They were doing everything they could to move forward, but they felt stuck.

While on maternity leave, Kayla discovered Habitat’s Affordable Homeownership Program. She and Kale applied, hoping this could finally be their opportunity.
Then one day, Kayla’s phone rang. It was Habitat.
“My heart dropped into my stomach,” she remembers.
They had been accepted! Kayla burst into tears, asking, “Are you sure you called the right Kayla?”
After years of wondering if they could ever own a home, they could finally start talking about when.
Together, we’re building a path to homeownership.
Today, Kayla and Kale are preparing to purchase their new home at Beechcliffe, alongside 32 other future Habitat homeowner households.
They’re building more than a home of their own. Through affordable homeownership education, volunteer hours, and getting to know their future neighbours, they’re already putting down roots in their new community.

“We want to have pride in our ability to build our own future, we are in partnership with Habitat. We are working together for this.”
Your donations make partnerships like this possible.

A childhood full of memories. A home that’s theirs to grow in.
Between them, Kayla and Kale lived in more than 50 places growing up. For Dennis and Aubrey, they dream of a childhood rooted in one place.
Kayla can’t wait to mark their children’s heights on the doorframe, year after year.
Family movie nights. Christmas lights. Holiday traditions and memories made in a home of their own.
As their children grow, their family can stay.
“We are so grateful for Habitat’s affordable home ownership program. It has really changed our lives – but more importantly, it will change the lives of our children. We are putting down roots for the next generation in a home of our own.”
Will you help another family create a home full of memories that last for generations?
Your holiday donation helps more people across Greater Ottawa find an affordable path to homeownership and build lasting stability.
Your support builds more than homes.
When you give, you’re not just helping to build a home. You’re creating the stable conditions for community members to have more opportunity and see long-term positive change.
Together, we build community.
This year, 35 future homeowner partners have begun their homeownership journeys, just like Kayla and Kale’s.
Through Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s Affordable Homeownership Program, families purchase their homes with manageable mortgage payments, supported every step of the way by our Homeowner Services team. From financial literacy training to homeowner readiness and volunteer engagement, families gain not only a home, but the confidence and skills to thrive as life-long homeowners.
With an ever-growing waiting list of families, we are excited to actively be in the process of preparing new homeowners for first-time homeownership! These builds are so much more than four walls and a roof, each represents community members, couples, parents, and children who will soon receive their keys and step into homes where they can finally put down roots.
