Right now, too many people in our community are doing everything right — working hard and budgeting carefully— yet still struggling to find a safe, stable and affordable place to live.

Nearly 6 in 10 families spend half their income just to keep a roof over their heads.

Without the stability of affordable homeownership, everything else becomes harder. Planning for the future, the health of family members, participating in extracurriculars, saving for children’s education, or simply feeling safe at home become out of reach.

Together, we build a brighter future.

This is where you make the difference. Your support helps remove the barriers that keep people stuck in unstable housing by creating a path to affordable homeownership and long-term stability.

Because of you, more people in our community can build their lives on their own terms.

You helped Zora build a brighter future.

Because of supporters like you, Zora was able to create a safe, stable home for her family — and everything began to change.

Before partnering with Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa, Zora was raising her two children in co-op housing where the bedrooms were in the basement. Mold kept coming back no matter how much she cleaned, and her older child struggled with asthma.

Trips to CHEO every few months became part of life.

“It was not healthy at all,” Zora shared. “I wanted to find a home that was more stable, more comfortable… a better place to live.”

Despite working hard, stability felt out of reach. She wanted her children to feel safe, to stay in the same school, and to have the kind of routines so many families take for granted.

Through Habitat’s Affordable Homeownership Program and the support of donors like you, Zora and her children moved into a safe, affordable home. With that stability, everything began to change.

“The kids were very proud to go to school and have a home… it changed our life for sure.”

Because she had that stability, Zora could plan ahead. Her children’s health improved. Life became more manageable.

Thanks to Habitat’s Affordable Homeownership Program, her housing costs were predictable, so Zora could look to the future.

The stability of affordable homeownership gave Zora the opportunity to pivot her career during Covid.

Today, she is the first woman Sales Manager at her automotive dealership, leading her own team — and her children are thriving as adults.

“There are no words to describe what Habitat did for me and my kids… I wouldn’t be where I am without Habitat.”

That kind of change starts with people like you.

Your support built stability and opportunity for Elen and Marlon’s family.

Before becoming homeowners, Elen and Marlon struggled to find a safe, affordable place that met their family’s needs. While working and staying to a tight budget, saving enough for a down payment felt impossible.

But with support like yours from this community, Elen & Marlon’s family recently moved into their Habitat home.

“When we first moved in, it was like a deep breath after a long, hard journey,” Elen shared.

Now, their children have space to play, grow, and just be kids.

For the first time, they can plan ahead — focusing on their future instead of worrying about housing.

Will you give generously to help build brighter futures for local families like Elen & Marlon’s?

Together, we build community.

This year, 35 more local family partners will have the chance to begin homeownership journeys just like Zora’s and Elen & Marlon’s.

Through Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s Affordable Homeownership Program, families purchase their homes with manageable mortgage payments, supported every step of the way by our Homeowner Services team. From financial literacy training to homeowner readiness and volunteer engagement, families gain not only a home, but the confidence and skills to thrive as life-long homeowners.

With an ever-growing waiting list of families, we are excited to actively be in the process of selecting and preparing new homeowners for our 35 new homes being built next year! These builds are so much more than four walls and a roof, each represents parents and children who will soon receive their keys and step into homes where they can finally put down roots.
