Meet the Kemptville Korners Families!
Next summer, Habitat Greater Ottawa, in partnership with Habitat Thousand Islands, will welcome families to their new homes at Kemptville Korners. The families are currently working on completing their volunteer hours as part of the Homeownership Program, which includes volunteering at the ReStore, at community events and building on the Kemptville Korners site alongside their future neighbours.
We look forward to celebrating the Kemptville Korners families as they officially become Habitat homeowners next year, including welcoming our 100th family served! For now, we invite you to get to know the Kemptville Korners families and learn about how each of their journeys brought them to Habitat for Humanity.
“Becoming a Habitat homeowner means a decent and better life. It means our children will feel safe and that we’ll have more control over our finances instead of our money going towards rent, which we won’t be able to recuperate. Most of all this opportunity mean that after living in Canada for 13 years, we will finally feel at home.”

“Despite these last difficult years, our family has stayed positive and held strong in our belief that coming to Canada would provide us with a better future. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity that better future is on the horizon. By becoming a Habitat homeowner, we know it will open more opportunities for us and our children. We’re looking forward to joining a community of families. Having a home also means peace and knowing that our children will grow up securely.”

“Now that we’ve been accepted into the Affordable Homeownership Program and have started our volunteer hours this dream is becoming more and more of a reality. To us, home is a gathering place where we will be able to experience the pleasant and unpleasant things about life – together. I want our home to be a place where we can relax and recharge. We’re no longer at the mercy of rentals and look forward to saving more for our children’s future. Since we will own our home, that home will eventually belong to our children – and that brings us a lot of peace of mind.”

“Ever since we were accepted into the homeownership program the excitement has been building slowly. Our two kids are excited to have the opportunity to join extra curriculars and they often talk about how they will decorate their rooms. We discuss with them what it will be like to move to a new place and community and that they will be the new kids at school. We are all nervous for the change but most of all excited for this opportunity! Owning a home will mean safety and protection. It means financial and emotional security. Our kids will know we will always be in our home and even when they grow up, they can always come back to the same place.”

“Having a home will change everything for my children. We’ll have the stability, the security, and the time to do many things like focus on my children’s education, their extracurriculars and being part of a community. We can grow a garden and have the space to get a pet. My kids will be able to say to their friends ‘we’re going home’ instead of ‘we’re going to the apartment.’ Things like that seem small but will have a profound impact on our family. There are no other programs like Habitat out there, trust me I’ve checked. Being accepted turned that impossible dream into a reality and I look forward to partnering with Habitat and the community to build a home for myself and for my children”

“What we’re looking forward to the most when we move into our Habitat home is the safety and security. I know our boys are looking forward to having their own bedrooms! Living in a good neighbourhood means the boys will get to go outside – they love running and hiking and our family enjoys going on picnics and connecting with nature. We’re also excited to save up for our children’s future and see them go off to university. With our Habitat home they’ll now have the energy and the space to study and make friends in the community.”
