Living in a cramped rental with visible mold, mildew and rodents, Shane and Laura were overwhelmed. Adding to the stress, their son Zak was suffering from respiratory issues due to the mold and all their children were facing challenges in school. They didn’t see how they could ever afford a home of their own, let alone family outings or extra-curricular activities. But when they learned of Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s affordable homeownership program – they knew they had to apply.

“I don’t feel sick anymore, there’s no mold on the walls.” – Zak, 11

Today, nearly one year after moving into their new home on Crampton Drive in Carleton Place, Shane and Laura are amazed to see the impact it has already had on their family. The children are healthy again, and their grades have improved due to the combination of better school, less stress, and a cleaner environment. Their daughter, Tamara, has transformed – going from struggling with learning and falling behind in school to an 83% average in the short time they have lived in their new home.

Their lives were changed forever, because of caring individuals in our community like you. Your gift to Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa does so much to help bring strength, stability and self-reliance to families in need of a decent place to live.

We need your financial support now more than ever as we take on our most ambitious project to date – a 16-home development in Orléans.

We rely on the generosity of our community, and we have a special offer for you to double your impact this spring. A generous donor will match all gifts to Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa – up to $15,000 for this campaign!

Your donation is an investment that pays off for generations, and that’s our mission. Your contribution helps us buy land, get permits, hire skilled tradespeople, source materials and do so much more to help build strong communities.

“We now have peace of mind,” says Shane. “We’re in a much better situation financially and get excited knowing that every payment brings us closer to owning this home. And helping to build this home alongside volunteers brings me such a sense of pride – in 20 years from now I will still remember how they all helped my kids by giving them a safe and stable home to grow up in.”

Donate before June 30, 2018 and DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT! Together we can raise over $30,000 to build safe, decent, affordable homes for local families.
