When Dax and Marge moved to Canada in 2017, they came with a vision for the life they wanted to build: new opportunities and a bright, stable future for their four children.
“We believe coming to Canada will give our children a better education, more career opportunities and a brighter future,” says Dax.
Since then, they have been building a life for their family in Ottawa, which includes one day owning a home. For Dax and Marge, finding a home has never been simply about having a place to live. From the beginning, one of their biggest hopes was to have a place to call their own where their children could grow feeling safe and secure, and feel confident pursuing their dreams.
“Home is where you can be with family that you love and loves you and where you feel you belong,” says Marge.
They also want their children to see that homeownership in Canada can be possible for their family and part of the future they are building together.
That vision is what brought Dax and Marge to Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s Affordable Homeownership Program. Through the program, Habitat helps make homeownership more attainable while giving future homeowners the opportunity to build equity and create greater housing stability for themselves and their families.
After almost a decade of building a life for their family in Canada, becoming homeowners next year will mark an exciting new chapter for them both. They can now look ahead knowing they’re creating a strong, lasting foundation for their family and the life they envisioned when they first arrived.
Their journey reflects how access to safe, affordable homeownership can create a strong, lasting foundation that extends beyond one generation, giving homeowners and their families the opportunity to build life on their own terms while contributing to stronger, healthier communities.
