Originally from the Dominican Republic, her family came to Canada with the hope of building a future filled with opportunity. Over the years, she has created a life here, contributing to her community and working toward the same goal shared by so many of us: a safe, affordable place to call home.
For Claira, home has always represented something much deeper than a physical space.
My earliest memories of home are rooted in a sense of love and doing the best we could with what we had,” Claira says. “It was about feeling safe and cared for. Those memories shaped how I define home today: home is where the heart is.”
That belief has stayed with her throughout her journey. A home is not simply about having four walls and a roof. It is about having a place where families can grow, where memories are made, and where people can feel secure knowing they have a foundation beneath them.
After years of working toward that goal, Habitat for Humanity’s Affordable Homeownership Program has provided her with a path toward something that has become increasingly difficult for many Canadians to achieve: homeownership.
Habitat represents hope for us,” Claira says. “It represents the moment when years of hard work finally lead to a place we can truly call home.”
