Through Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s Affordable Homeownership Program, that dream became reality.

For Rebecca, stability starts with home.
When Rebecca moved in to her Habitat home in 2019, the first thing she did was paint Jack’s bedroom, something she was not allowed to do in her past rentals— finally, she could turn their house into a home. That moment marked the start of real stability, giving her the chance to look ahead and plan for Jack’s future.
Six years ago, my son Jack and I moved from one rental to another, always worrying about the next rent increase or unexpected expense that could uproot us again.
Even with a good job, over 60% of my income went to rent. We were surviving day to day.
Then someone like you made a choice. You and other Habitat Greater Ottawa supporters created a path to homeownership for families like mine, and everything changed.
The day I held the keys to my own home exists because of your belief in families like ours. Your generosity gave Jack the space to focus on school, make friends, and decorate his own room for the first time.
Now he’s in grade 9, dreaming of a future in digital arts. Because of your support, I have the stability to plan ahead and save for his education.

This month, Elen and Marlon’s family begin their own journey, after receiving the keys to their Habitat home earlier this December. Their boys, ages 6 and 12, will move into a warm home this winter, with safe, reliable heating— and the security their family has waited years to find.
Together, we build safe affordable housing for local families.
Next year, 35 more local family partners will have the chance to begin homeownership journies just like Rebecca’s and Elen & Marlon’s.
Through Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s Affordable Homeownership Program, families purchase their homes with manageable mortgage payments, supported every step of the way by our Homeowner Services team. From financial literacy training to homeowner readiness and volunteer engagement, families gain not only a home, but the confidence and skills to thrive as life-long homeowners.
With an ever-growing waiting list of families, we are excited to begin selecting and preparing new homeowners for our 35 new homes being built next year. These builds are so much more than four walls and a roof, each represents parents and children who will soon receive their keys and step into homes where they can finally put down roots.
