Leave a lasting, tangible mark for the next generation
What is your earliest memory of home? Was it learning how to ride a bike on your driveway? Running through the front door after school and grabbing a snack from the kitchen? Or maybe it was building a blanket fort in the basement with your siblings.
All of us have strong memories when we think of home. And who can forget the mix of nervousness and excitement when officially receiving the keys to our first home? At Habitat GO, we are working to ensure that local families build foundation and security through affordable housing. By joining "Legacy Builders," you will know that you are helping create an enduring legacy of hope. Your generous donation will allow us to continue building strength, stability and independence for families in the Greater Ottawa area.
Every gift makes a difference
Your planned giving will provide families in Ottawa with a safe, decent place to call home. Your donations will go directly towards building current Habitat homes, while also financially securing land for future developments. The more homes we build, the more families we will be able to serve, with your help.
Habitat families report feeling happier, healthier and more financially secure, but the greatest beneficiaries of a Habitat home are the children. Many kids of Habitat families report an increase in confidence which leads them to do better in school and participate in more extracurricular activities. Children that grow up in stable homes are also more likely to graduate to post-secondary education and go on to become homeowners themselves. Your planned giving will truly leave a positive impact for generations.
How it works
There are many ways to remember Habitat GO in your Will or life insurance policy. Even a small amount will make a difference in the lives of local families. You may also enjoy possible tax benefits during your lifetime by choosing to leave a bequest. You can contact our office, or speak to your lawyer for more information.
Ways to give:
- Leave a share of your assets
A good way to help is to leave a percentage of what is left of your Estate or assets after other gifts (and debts) have been paid—known as a “residual gift.” If you have already made a Will, but want to add a residual gift to Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa, your lawyer can help you do this without affecting the gifts you leave your loved ones.
- Leave a fixed sum of money
You may wish to leave us a stated sum of money. This type of gift is known as a “specific gift.”
- Leave a specific item of value
You may wish to leave us a particular item, which can be sold to support our conservation work. It could be property or an item of value, such as an antique or jewelry.
