Welcome to the 18th annual Gala!

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, we thank each of you for attending this year’s Gala and for your ongoing support of Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa.

Our annual Gala is a special opportunity to recognize the generosity of our build sponsors, donors, volunteers, suppliers and tradespeople. Your dedication and contributions are why Habitat Greater Ottawa is still here, 30 years strong, supporting families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.

At this year’s Gala, we are not only celebrating our 30th anniversary of partnering alongside donors, volunteers and families, we are also celebrating the 15 families who will soon receive the keys to their new Habitat homes at Kemptville Korners in 2024, in partnership with Habitat Thousand Islands – including our 100th family served!

Despite the celebrations, we recognize our work is far from over. The housing crisis continues to grow in Ottawa and across the province, and it is more important now than ever that we continue to support families and their children with a strong foundation in a stable, long-term affordable home.

As we plan for the next 30 years of building safe and affordable housing, your help is instrumental in continuing to grow the number of families served by Habitat Greater Ottawa. The Habitat Affordable Homeownership model provides families with the necessary support to build a secure future and to remove barriers to opportunities such as access to safe neighborhoods, good schools, and community belonging.

For the past 18 years, Habitat Greater Ottawa Gala sponsors and donors have made this evening a tremendous success, and we are very grateful for your loyal support. As you enjoy this evening we hope you will take a moment to reflect on the meaning of home, and how you can help the next generation of families in Ottawa.

Thank you and have a fabulous evening!

Emcee & Auctioneer: Solomon Friedman

Solomon Friedman is a partner at the Ottawa-based private equity firm, Ethical Capital Partners, where he also serves as VP Compliance. Solomon is also a criminal and regulatory defence lawyer, leading the firm of Friedman Mansour LLP. He also serves as an adjunct law professor at the University of Ottawa, where he teaches the Law of Evidence. In his copious spare time, he is a private pilot and small aircraft owner.

But that’s not the interesting part. Most importantly, Solomon is the father of three active teenagers – a 14-year-old son and two 18-year-old twins. Sadly, they are unanimously unimpressed with both his cross-examination and general advocacy skills. Such is life.

Solomon is active in the community, giving his time to a wide variety of causes. He is a founding director of Barristers for a Better Bytown, a registered charity, which supports local charitable initiatives benefiting the poor, mentally ill and otherwise marginalized members of our community.
