Lockheed Martin Canada is a long-time partner of Habitat Greater Ottawa, participating in a range of build projects and initiatives in support of local families. Over the years, Lockheed Martin Canada has volunteered on our Habitat build site as a Major Build Sponsor, as well as contributed to the success of our annual Steel Toes & Stilettos Gala.

Most notably, since 2017 Lockheed Martin Canada has been the main sponsor for the annual Veteran Build Day. Veteran Build encourages Canadian Veterans, active duty military members and reserve members to volunteer on the Habitat Greater Ottawa build site and share in a unique experience while helping local families to find strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.

When the opportunity came up for Lockheed Martin Canada to partner with Habitat Greater Ottawa for an annual Military and Veteran Build Day, it was a natural fit and one that our employees have truly embraced,” says Janice Menezes, Chief Financial Officer at Lockheed Martin Canada. “Our team looks forward to the build day each year. This investment is an incredible opportunity to give back to our community, strengthen our support and connect with Canadian military and Veterans.”

Due to COVID-19, Habitat Greater Ottawa has had to forego our in-person volunteer Habitat Team Builds and related events including the annual Veteran Build Day. Difficult decisions have been made these last nine months, but it is thanks to the continued commitment of supporters like Lockheed Martin Canada that we’ve been able to adapt and have continued to build affordable housing for local families throughout the pandemic. Our partnership with Lockheed Martin is more important now than ever as access to affordable housing has become even more critical during this time as COVID requires that we all shelter in place. Even before the pandemic, the City of Ottawa declared a housing and homelessness emergency and crisis earlier this year, reflecting the 42 percent of Ottawa households experiencing housing unaffordability.

Lockheed Martin’s generous contribution will support our latest development Titus Landing at Wateridge Village. Recently, we broke ground on this 8-unit stacked townhome development in the Rideau-Rockcliffe area. We hope to complete the foundation by the end of this year and continue building in early spring 2021.
